The Irish were defeated in the battle and had to fly and the leader fled over the country and he was attacked single handed by Nicholls on the top of Mount Ida hill where he was working repairing pots and pans. This Nicholls was a big powerful man and he killed the Irish leader and when the general came back he found Nicholl standing over the dead body of the Irish leader. He was so pleased that he bestowed on him the surrounding townlands and Nicholls called the place "mount Ida." Nicholls and a lot of his followers lived there for many generations. They say that there was a lake in Mount Ida at that time and that he brought the water of it to his own door and that all he had to do was to put out his hand in the window and take in a bucket full of water. It was they who called the place "Mount Ida" and they lived there for so many generations. Through time some of them left and all who remained became Catholics. There are now no Nicholls
