    A great big cake was baked and this cake was placed on top of a churndash which was sunk in the field. Round this cake the young people danced and sung and late in the evening the best boy and girl dancer got the cake and their job was to cut it up and divide it among the others. Then they boiled eggs and all sat down and had a great feed. The custom was to eat the eggs with "cranskeens" or wooden spoons and the young people would be busy making them before Easter Sunday.

  2. The Road into Arva from Co. Leitrim is called the Red Road. The story goes that when St. Patrick was going that way he called into a house to get a meal. The people were very stingy and the woman of the house killed the cat and served it up for him to eat. Before commencing the meal St. Patrick made the sign of the cross and touched the cat and it immediately jumped off the table going
