    Long ago the houses were (made) thatched with heather which they got in the bog. The houses were not strong as they were built without a foundation. The walls were made of stone and there were no floors only the earth. The chimneys were made of straw and boards and plastered with clay. They had very bad light as the windows were small and they had no oil lamps to light at night only rush candles.
    There was only one window in the house which was made of boards. There was only one door also which was very small with a half outside. The old people long ago slept in beds in the house which was made of boards. These were called outshots and there was one
