  1. There are many places in the district which derive their names from certain things that occurred at them some time ago.
One of them is the "Dead Man's Point". It is situated in the townland of Kilgarriff and about a quarter of a mile from Inch Island.
It got that name from an important incident that happened there during the middle centuries. During that time there was a monastery and a grave-yard on the Island. The legends tell us that it was a protestant man that was about to be buried on the island.
The way for bringing out the corpse to the grave-yard was on a flag and this time when the funeral was on its way out a storm arose on the lough and the flag sunk and was drowned.
