The most interesting of ancient highways from a historical viewpoint is "The Green Road" on the south eastern slope of Sleeve Muire.
This was a public thorough fare up to the early years of the last century. The portion of it which has become grass grown from disuse starts at Corbetts' house on the Hill of Esker and ends on the summit of Sleeve Muire. It was on this portion that a minor battle took place in the early days of January 1602 when O Sullivan Beare on his historic march from Berhhaven to Drumahare met and defeated the forces of Mac David Burke.
