1. The Care of Farm Animals

   There are a good few farm animals around our district and here are a few of their names, cows, horses, calves, sheep, goat, dogs, cats, mules, etc. Nearly all animals have names and are a few names for cows, Polly, Nancy, Betta, names for horses, Captain, Felix, Andy, names for dogs, Fly, Terry, Captain, Bell, Sam and Watch and lots of others. This is said that when you are driving cows out of a field you have to say, how, how; how, long ago the people uses to say, tuk, tuk, tuk, when they were call the hens, but now they have it changed to chuck, chuck, chuck. When you want to hurt the cat say, sgath, sgath, sgath, on cath amach, cath amach, cath amach. The cow-house is cleaned out every morning with a fork and a brush and in the midst of it is a shore for the manure and they are tied by chains to a piece of timber. They were tied in the past by a piece of a straw rope called a looudaun. When you have finished milking a cow all the people put a cross on her hip to bring good luck on the milk. They also tie a red ribbon to the cows tail before she calfs because it is said it is a sign of good luck. Onions or some sort of vegetables are hung on pegs in the cow house to bring good luck on the crops,
