  1. There were great many old customs in the days of our forefathers that are not appreciated by the people of the present day at all.
    For instance even for the days of lent which are not so strict no person would eat meat of any kind nor used any milk on their tea or cocoa during the fast days and it was rare thing to get tea at all.
    When Christmas came their chief food was oaten bread and coffee but any man who was fairly rich killed a sheep or something of his how, pigs were scarce in this part of the country and no calves were reared except the female class all male calves were brought and sold to a butchers as soon as they were calved.
    The houses were not lighted in old times as they are now the only means of light was a small hole which was closely fitted with a tiny door called a shutter and the only light for night was a bog deal split into very thin sticks those were very
