  1. Severe Weather
    I often heard people talking about storms that occured in the district but they used not do much harm. Only knocking trees and cocks of straw and hay and sometimes a house if it was in a bad condition. The snow storms were the worst because sheep used to die and other animals also.
    The night before the storm the farmers would be preparing for it so that it would not do much damage. They used to get ropes and tie stones from them and then throw them across the tops of the houses. They used do the same to the cocks of hay and straw.
    The "big wind" of eighteen thirty nine was high wing and it did not do so much damage, to low out-houses. It knocked trees and cocks of hays and straw: The storm of nienteen hundred and three did the most damage.
