- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The weather it being calm and still,
Our anchors we did weigh;
Each man being stout and hearty,
Bound for Lough Swilly Bay.
We steered our course right to the north,
Our enemies to destroy;
But little did we think or fear,
The sea would us annoy.
On the fifth day of November,
The wind began to blow;
It blew a heavy due-west wind,
With heavy squalls of snow.
The wind it still continued,
The "Talbot" bore to sea;
When the "Saldanha " brave and all her men,
Bound for Lough Swilly Bay.
The wind it shifted to the north,
And dismal was the night;
It was from Fanad Signal Pole,
We did observe a light.
It was the hour of eight o clock,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
