  1. On St. Brigids Eve the Donegal people make crosses of rushes and "poundies" for supper. After supper the oldest member of the family goes out for rushes. When he comes back he knocks at the door and says "Fosgail an doras agus leig isteac Brigid." Some one inside answers "Se do beatha a Brighid" three times. then the rushes are made into crosses. On Candlemass day holy water is thrown on them. They are then hung up in every room in the house and every out houses well. The crosses are shaped thus [sketch of cross]
