- A class was once waiting for the late Dr. Maguire when he was professor in Maynooth.
Some lively young students found a stray donkey in the grounds and for a joke brought it in and tied it to the pulpit (or tub as they called it) where the Doctor was to lecture.The doctor came in and began his lecture as usual. He never pretended to see the animal and the joke fell flat.
Considerably taken aback, a number of students then got up and with considerable pushing and confusion proceeded to put the donley out.
Then the Doctor paused and watched for a while.
In his usual deep voice he remarked:-"He came in unto His own and His own received Him not".
