    Once upon a time, priests used to read mass in Eglish and that is where it got its name from. Mass used to be read once a week in it. The scaláns, they used to call the churches in those days. The scalán that was in Eglish was at the foot of "Cró Gorm" under three or four rocks. In those days, there were no prayer-books or Catechisms and the people had no book-learning also. It is said that it is over one hundred years since there was mass read in it. The remains of the old church is to be seen yet. There was another church in Ardbane on John Kelly's hill, and the altar is to be seen on it yet. Priests used to read mass every day in it. The people used to come twelve and fourteen miles to hear mass. On sunny days, the priests to read mass out on the green but that is not so now. In olden times, there was no word
