   There is a lake in the Gomeragh Mountains called "Crottys Lake". Saint Patrick put a serpent into the lake. The serpent asked him when would he be let out of it. Saint Patrick said on Monday, and the serpent said "Is fada an tá go tuain, agus is fada a duhairt naom Padraig." The serpent can be seen only every seventy-seven years.

   Legend has it, that a great many years ago there was a cow that came out of the lake of Com Seagán. She strayed into a farmer close by the lake and stayed on with his cows. She was supposed to fill any vessel that was put under her at milking time. A woman thought she would get the best of the cow in getting a vessel she could not fill. So she got a sieve and milked.
