Not very long ago candles were made in this district. They were made from the fat of goats. The goats were killed and the fat was taken out of them. The fat was boiled ina pot. Four threads were dipped in the tallow until it formed into a wick. Then the tallow was shaped into a candle. These wer called “tallow candles”.

Long ago people made their own candles. They we called “tallow candles”. They were made from the fat of cows and goats. When they were killed the fat was rendered. Then cords were dipped up and down in the tallow until they were thick enough. Then they were hung from the rafters until they were hard. Some people had moulds for shaping candles they were like tubes.
