    them close by the fire to season. Then they got some suet or fat of a sheep. They put this fat into a basin or bowl. Then they put the tongs into the fire until it was red hot. Then they squeezed the fast with the reddened tongs and it became a liquid.
    When the rushes were seasoned enough to have all the damp out of them, they were then taken and soaked with this liquid made from fat. Thus the rush candle was made.
    When dry and hardened the bundles were sorted away for use. There was a small bit of round tin made round and tacked on
