- The custom of match making in the old style is still practised here. Where there is an eligible girl a man on the "look-out" brings a friend and a bottle of whiskey (poteen was in general use here till August 1932 when it was completely stamped out by two missionaries Father Conneally and Father Gorey) and they call on the girls parents about bed-time. Their business is soon guessed and the girl busies herself getting food ready and showing her nimbleness and dexterity, for match-making is a lengthy business and if both parties are satisfied that business can be done there is no hurry.
