  1. A Song - Tragic Occurrence at Loch Coggeen - December 20 1896

You feeling hearted Christians I hope you will drawnear

    1. You feeling hearted Christians. I hope you will draw near and listen to those sorrowful lines which you shall short? Oh, it was a sad Xmas for their parents to enjoy,
    2. It was at Loch Coggeen not far from Westport Quay,
Where those three heroes lost their lives. I me sorry for to say
On the 20th of Dec. one Sunday afternoon,
How little was their notion they and meet their death so soon,
    3. They seated round about the lake as brave as any pair,
Till Dudley Toole sprang on the ice their lives he thought to spare.
They grasped each other tightly and sank down in the deep,
And closed their eyes to heaven for an everlasting sleep,
    4. But when the sad news reached Westport town, at 8 o'clock that night,
They ran in thousands to the lake, to see that awful sight,
And they going around I Loch Coggeen like people in despair.
N 5. How as they were brought in and the people standing by,
By that awful sight they got a fright and surely had to cry,
The other three that then were saved will mind it evermore,
For scarcily they could tell the tale, when they were brought here.
    6. Miss Mary-Anne O'Malley her age but twenty three,
And Robert McCoy but 21 a youthful boy was he,
Poor Dudley Toole scarce 17 all in his youth and bloom.
