- About 28 yrs ago last September a flood swept over this district bringing everything that the farmer had laboured so hard for. The damage estimated about five hundred pounds. There was nothing like it before or since.
2. About ten years ago a terrible thunder storm swept hay oats, and other things before it down the [river] Owenwee river.
On New Year's night 1839 a severe storm swept over this district bringing hay oats, and the roofs of houses with it. Nothing was left standing. It is know ever since as the night of the Big Wind.
