  1. There was an ould carpenter living about three miles from here wan time. His name was ould Pat Clifford. He was a sort of a botch carpenter.
    He was working up at Ryan's of Tomcoole wan time. He happened to be doing some painting an a car he had just finished making. Who walked into the yard where he was working but Dr. Ryan of Taghmon.
    "Oh! Ho" says Dr. Ryan, "what are you doing, what are you doing?"
    "I'm putting a coat of paint on this car"
    "Oh putty and paint, putty and paint, 'tis a great friend of the carpenter's it covers up all their dirty work, do you understand!"
    "Begod right," says Clifford, "and the spade and shovel is a great friend of the doctors' they will cover up a lot of his dirty work
