  1. It’s many years ago, when my father was a young chap, he was coming home wan night from gambling himself and a companion. It was about twelve o’clock in the night, and such is the fashion of us all when we are young to be out late at night. Well, to begin my story. They had to pass by a graveyard and this very same graveyard was supposed to be haunted. When they came up to it they saw something like a dog standing in by the gate. He had two eyes like balls of fire. They did not got much of a fright; they passed on brave and bould. When they came home they told the people of the house what they had seen.
