  1. There are many castles to be seen in this district. The principal ones are Bunratty castle, the three in Cratloe, Rosmanaher castle, and Rossroe castle.
    Bunratty castle is a very beautiful building and is in a good state. This is the fourth castle that stood on that spot. Many strange stories have been told about this castle. It was said that a priest was shot there during the time of Cromwell and that his dog is still to be seen there about midnight Protestants lived there but they were haunted by strange noises.
    Rosmanaher castle is in the middle of a great wood and it is to be seen very far off. It was said that a man who was out one day walking in the wood grew tired and sat down to take a rest. He lay down near the castle and remained there for about two hours. When suddenly he was struck on the face with what appeared to be a cold hand. The man got nervous and died at a young age. It is said that the castle has been taken possession of by the good people
