    one of these staves projected higher than the others thus forming a handle. These noggins were scubbed white and left in a row on their sides in front of the dresser. They were used for holding porridge or broth. This word noggin was used in the locality for a head. If a person had a big head it was usual to say "he had a big noggin on him."
