  1. In this district there are a few names which show that they had some connection with the penal times.
Knockanafrinn is the highest peak on the Comeragh mountains and as the name indicates mass used be said there in the past.
Carraig Coisreaca is a flat rock resting on four other rocks. It is situated in the townland of Glenpatrick about four miles west of the village of Rathgormack.
Croughataggart is situated in Whitestown in the parish of Clonea.
Knocknacreha is about a quarter of a mile west of Rathgormack and in English it is yet called Gallow' s Hill. There is a tree on the side of the road there with a hole going through the trunk about fifteen feet from the ground and people say that the hangings used to take place on it.
