  2. There was an old sports meeting held in Glen until about fifty years ago. It was held on Ascension Thursday and the last one was in 1887. It was held in a field belonging to Bob Hurley, on the banks of the River Suir. It was shifted up afterwards because of the danger of drunken people getting drowned.
    The field was three acres in size. The sports held were dancing, singing, high jumping and long jumping. The great dancers were, Mick Kelly of Churchtown, Ted Hogan of Carrick, William (Price)
