    landmarks appeared through the mist, when suddenly a ray of sunlight lit up a fresh grey object that pricked the clouds. It was something new, and I tried to recognise it, but in vain, then turned to my neighbour for information, only to discover that it was the new church !
    The train rushed along, crossed the stream, and, the light gleaming, threw the towering spire into prospective, and changed the whole landscape !
    The next moment the train stopped, and I was out and away through bye- ways to the old chapel in the lane, but it was no more ! Higher up through the town to the jail, I was pulled up by the deep booming of the Angelus bell, as significant of changed days as the lofty spire seen across the river.
