    another animal. "Change" is the money you get back when you give too much for a thing. If goods were given out for nothing but to be paid sometime afterwards it is said that the goods are given on "tick".
    Long ago Saturday was an unlucky day to buy goods, and Friday was a lucky day. It is unlucky to buy or sell anything on the first of May.
    Long ago there were pedlars who would come round the country, and give goods in place of old bottles or rags.
    There are many different names for coins such as a "wing", which is a penny, a "quid", which is a pound, a "bob" which is a shilling, and a "tanner" which is sixpence.
