(made of iron) - The people used not to wear boots until they were seven years of age. They used to make the children wear heavy nail boots to school and to Mass.
The children used to go barefoot from the first of May till the end of Sept. Most of the boys and girls wore clogs and sometimes old shoes made of cloth and a piece of card-board put in them for soles.
The old women used to wear boots with elastic sides in them. Other boots they wore were called "long-neck boots" They wore boots that almost went up to their knees.- Collector
