  1. Measurements: 4 inches = 1 hand(measuring horses).
    An average farmhorse would be about 16 hands in height.
    Women measure cloth in finger lengths or sometimes(for longer pieces) from the shoulder to the finger tip(roughly 30"). A groupon or góppan of meal means a person's two hands together full of meal. A fistful = one handful.
    A bothen of straw = straw made into a bundle to be carried on one's back.
    Eggs are counted in dozens. Ten dozen make one hundred. Thirty eggs in one quarter; fifteen eggs in a half quarter. For brooding eggs are generally bought in quarters.
