The names of the potatoes that grow in this district are Kerr's Pinks, Arran Banners, Arran Victors, Black Champions, British Queens and Beauty of Hebrew.
Potatoes were used instead of starch years ago the people bought no starch they used to grate the potatoes and make starch out of them, by squeezing the potatoes through a cloth and draining the liquid into a vessel and leaving it for some time the the starch sets to the bottom.
- The day of a wedding is a very joyful one and around my neighbourhood there are several old customs still observed, one is the typing of an old shoe to some part of the vehicle in which the Bride and Groom are travelling, another old custom is the throwing of rice on the heads of the newly wed's. A custom that is still a great favourite is the passing of a piece of the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
