  1. The Care of Our Farm Animals. No. I.
The cattle, sheep, horses, pigs, cats, are the domestic animals at home.
Most of our cows are called after the people we bought them from, but those which are not called after the people we bought them from, the names of them are, Susie, Lizzy, Whiteface, Young Moneboy, Snowball, Rhoda, Crubany.
There is one door on our cowhouse, and it holds eight cows, there is two windows in it.
The cows are tied to stakes by iron chains. The place where the cows are kept is called a byre.
It is customary when done milking a cow to dip your finger in the froth and make a sign of the cross on the cow. It is said if you are milking a cow which kicks, if you sing she will. When a person comes into the byre and you milking, they say "Good speed".
There is a place for holding fodder in the stable. They get hay in Winter, and grows in the Summer.
I have never of how the animal calls came into being
