- About the year 1882 the greatest frost Ireland had ever known took place during the months of December and January. It lasted nine weeks. All the lakes and rivers were frozen so much that a cart and horse crossed the River Annalee from one bank to the other. The lakes were so much frozen also that a tree could be knocked on them and the people could go out and cut it up and bring a horse and cart on the ice to drag it away. The frost was so intense that if you put your fingers and it wet on(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
