Cromwell passed through this district. He came to the castle at Castle-dermot, and Tullow, and took the two of them. After that he and his soldiers crossed the Slaney, and fought the Wicklow men at the Slaney.
Cromwell and his soldiers came to Clonmore and broke down the top of the cross. They took the castle at Clonmore. The place where Cromwell passed through the Slaney is called Cromwell's Ford now.
