  1. An old school was carried on in our field in Ballyleigh in 1857. The schoolmaster's name was John Rish. He slept in Peter Sinnot's barn at Ballinabanouge They were not black boards only slates and they had no pens only quills. They learned navigation. The scholars had to stand, they never sat down. The scholars used to make a collection and give it to the master.
