  1. On St Patrick's day long ago a furze stick was burned in the fire and a cross was marked on your right arm with it. In olden times crosses were made of ribbons in the schools. "On St Patrick's throw candles and candlesticks away and go to bed with the light of the day".

    If the cat was churning it is often she would have her paws in it,
    When the goat goes to the door of the chapel she will not stop until she goes to the altar.
    It is an ill wind that does not blow someone good-
    Look after the pence and the pounds will look after them-
