  1. In the spring of 1917 a very heavy fall of snow swept over Ireland. It drifted so high that many were almost covered and roads were rendered impassable. People found it very hard to get provisions and they had to clear paths with shovels. The people around St Mullins were lucky as they made the journey to town by canal.
