  1. Many travelling men come around this district. One of them is Davey Houlihan. He goes around from house to house begging and sometimes he stops a night in the farmers' houses. Billy Ryan from Castlecomer is another. He plays a melodeon and often sleeps in a rick of hay or straw.
Jack Fitzpatrick used to go around playing a tin whistle. He is now dead. Frank is the name of a man who goes around selling bootlaces, tiepins and other things. Little Tommy was the name of another man who sold holy pictures and beads.
