    The principal weather lore as observed in Edenderry is as follows
    Signs of Rain
    1. "The Dublin Red" which means that if the sky is red in the direction of Dublin.
    2. When suckers are seen from the sun.
    3. When there is a circle around the moon and when the moon lies on its back.
    4. If the stars are dim.
    5. If the clouds are going away from the direction of the sea.
    6. A rainbow in the morning is a shepherd's warning, a rainbow at night is a shepherds delight.
    7. When the wind is in the South we have most rain.
    8. If the swallows fly low.
    9. If the seagulls fly inland.
    10. If the curlews are calling.
    11. If the wild geese are quacking loudly.
    12. If a cat scratches wood, or sits with her back to the fire
