    the high contracting parties with all the friends and neighbours set out for Church / for the ceremony proper/ there to the home of the bridegroom where there was a full sized hooley with all the usual trimmings, of singing dancing and a literal sprinkling of whisky / not always of the legitimate brand/ for he it whispered, there were several potteen dens in the neighbourhood.
    It was sometimes customary for the guests to indulge in what was called the "Race for the Garters": / Immediately after the wedding there was a race from the church to the Bridegrooms house by all the young Bucks on horseback. The winner secured the Trophy / the Brides garter
