  1. About a century ago there lived a man in Shanoule named Paddy Malaya. He was the strongest man in the neighbourhood, and one day as he was going to his work he found that his horse was lame and could not travel. He had to bring a plough and a roller home from the field. At last he thought of a plan and walking to the field he got the roller on his shoulder and was going around looking for the plough.
One of the swiftest runners in the district long ago was Stephen Donnelly of Cullenstown.
