Some years ago the bride & groom used to stay in the house, & have dancing.
The Strawmen would come in & dance with the bride. Nowadays the bride & groom usually go away on their honeymoon, so there is not a dance: The straw boys sometimes ask the man of the house to give them porter, or money. If this is not given they sometimes do damage to something about the house. Another name for those men is "Band Beggars".- Collector
