The Battle of Ballinamuck is often spoken of as the last engagement of the Rebellion of 1798. But with the exception of the activities of Michael Dwyer the great Wicklow guerilla leader the last land engagement of the Rebellion of 1798 was fought in Granard when the South Longford men with their allies from the parish of Colmcille tried to defend Granard against the overwhelming forces of Lake & Cornwallis.
