Many of the old people and some people still keep St Stephens day as a day of abstinence. By doing so they believe that the family will be saved from all sickness and contagious diseases during the coming year

- Little clay pipes found in the fields were supposed to belong to the fairies and were called by the old people Geanncanaghs' Pipes. The fairies or good people are seldom called that name now.
