- The most harmful weeds on our farm are the chicken-weed and the thistle. They are harmful because they spread rapidly over the land and in this way choke the crops. The thistle also takes some of the substance from the land and on this account the law commands the thistles to be cut.Herbs are used as cures for making ointments to cure skin trouble. The herb ladum is used in all skin ointments and the primrose root is also used in skin ointments. The ladum and primrose root are chopped up and fried with lard to be made ointment of.
