In the townland of Dunlum about a mile and a half north of the village of Mt Temple there is an old ash tree.

    (continued from previous page)
with them their dogs and cattle. They drove their cattle on before them.
When they reached the tree the ghost was there. The cattle turned their backs to the ghost and ran away. When the people reached the ghost and looked at him they were terrified to see nothing but a big mass of fire. The ghost let a terrible roar and disappeared for ever under the tree.
Some time later a man tried to cut down the tree for fire-wood but as he did so the saw broke in two halves.
