- There are two forges in the parish. The smiths are John Mullen, and Thomas Ivory. Their people have been smiths for many years. Mullen’s forge is situated in the town of Delvin, and Ivory’s forge is situated at a crossroads about one mile and a half from Delvin.
Mullen’s forge is large, so that several horses can be brought in at one time, and carts, ploughs, rakes and other things which need repairs.
The door is very large and made in two halves, and fixed to run on wheels or metals, the two doors meeting in the centre. It has a galvanized roof on it.
The bellows is made of leather and boards. There is a pipe out of it, and a handle, and when you pull this handle up and down the wind comes out of the pipe, and lights the fire for the smith(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
