  1. About a quarter of a mile west of Laytown on the North bank of the river Nanny there stands an old green mound which is locally known as the 'Moat of the Ninch'. It is locally said to be the burial place of a man named Laig who was Charioteer to Cuculain and was killed in the battle of Termonfeckin and wished to be buried on the banks of the Nanny. They buried him under an old green mound. Laytown is called after
