  1. In the village of Louth there lived an old woman called Biddy McArdle. She often told us stories which her father told her about the famine. Her father she said remembered the Famine.
    He told her that he worked for a penny a day and that he worked hard for that money. He got nothing to eat only Indian Porridge and oaten bread and that they got tea once a week and that was on a Sunday morning. There was a soup kitchen in Borbee.
