  1. Long ago people used to go to the public houses and drink a terrible lot of beer, they called that drowning their shamrock. The children in schools made St Patricks crosses and wore them on St Patricks Day. Some distance from the village of Louth can be seen the ruins of and old church which St Patrick established many years ago. Saint Patrick was a great friend of St Mochtas. Some of the old people of the village can point out the very stone at which the two friends used to meet and converse together.
