- There is an old story told of hidden treasure buried under the ruined Castle of Ballysheedy which is situated in the parish of Anacarthy about four miles from Dundrum. Early in the 18th century a sailor named Philip Ryan came home after forty years of sailing the seas to end his days in Ballysheedy, his native place. His nephew and family lived in the old homestead and made the old man welcome. When he found he was welcome to stay in his old home Philip Ryan went to Limerick and brought home a large sea chest such as sailors used in those days. It's great weight was commented on by his nephew but the old man remarked that it contained all his worldly goods. One day in cleaning the old man's room Mrs. Ryan moved the chest and found it much lighter, she told her husband so. After a visit to the old man's room in his absence they concluded that whatever the sailor had in the chest when he came(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
