- Some years ago my great grandfather used make candles for his own use. He made them out of the fat of sheep, which is called tallow. The tallow had to be melted with very hot water, so as to make it soft. He had shapes which he called candle shapes. He used call them tallow candles on account of they being made from(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
